Today is my parents anniversary. They met the second week of freshman year of college and have been together ever since. As soon as I was old enough to know a little about the world, I knew I wanted what my parents had one day. I knew I wanted someone who would always be there for me, always love me, and always support me know matter what.
Growing up, it was my parents, me and my younger brother, Jeremy. We always had at least one dog too. I don’t want to say things were easy or there was no stress in my life or my parents because that would be untrue.
I know my dad traveled a tremendous amount which was very difficult for my mom who was on her own with two little kids. There was the usual family-caused stress. And obviously the day to day things that we all deal with. Plus, I wasn’t prevued to my family’s financial situation but I did learn at the age of 13 that we had good health insurance.
My parents have been through a lot together. Even before I was born, my dad’s father passed away when they first started dating, my grandmother had been given a month to live but thankfully beat the odds, and there was other “normal” issues between them and the people in their life.
It wasn’t until years after I got sick did I realize just how amazing my parents truly were. To be able to balance and juggle all that they had to with not only me but Jeremy too plus working, friends/family, and just life in general… I honestly have no idea how they did it.
Obviously, I am older now so I have a different perspective on things. I am so thankful to my mom and dad for everything they have done for me. I don’t know how our family would have survived all that we have if it wasn’t for their partnership. Sherri and Mitch Troy are the epitome of what parents and a couple should be.
Mom and Dad, you guys are the greatest human beings and parents and all I want are happy, good things for you from here on out. (KNOCK!)
